§ 2-19-62. Security requirements.

  • (a)

    The owner of each convenience store shall cause said store to be equipped with the following security devices:

    (1)

    A silent alarm that notifies a local law enforcement agency or a private security agency that a robbery or other crime is taking place; and

    (2)

    A security camera capable of retrieving an image to assist in the identification and apprehension of the perpetrator(s) of a crime; and

    (3)

    Height markers at the entrance(s) of the establishment which display height measures from the floor; and

    (4)

    A permanently affixed drop safe or cash management device that provides no access to its contents, other than by an off-site key; and

    (5)

    Lighted parking lots illuminated at an intensity of at least two (2) foot-candles per square foot with a uniformity ratio of no more than five (5) to one at eighteen (18) inches above the surface of the parking lot; and

    (6)

    A conspicuous sign at the entrance(s) to the convenience store which states that the cash register contains fifty dollars ($50.00) or less.

    (b)

    The owner or principal operator of each convenience store shall:

    (1)

    Operate the establishment with a minimum of two (2) employees present on the premises at all times between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., or provide an off-duty state certified law enforcement officer or state licensed security guard on the premises at all times between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.; and

    (2)

    Maintain window signage so that there is a clear and unobstructed if such tinting reduces exterior or interior viewing; and

    (3)

    Prohibit window tinting on the windows of the establishment if such tinting reduces exterior or interior viewing; and

    (4)

    Establish a cash management policy to limit the amount of available cash on hand between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
