§ 2-20-3. Purpose.

The purpose of this chapter is to protect the public health, safety and general welfare; to ensure the orderly development and recovery of phosphate resources in a manner compatible with the overall development of the county; to conserve natural and environmental resources for present and future generations; to minimize the adverse impacts of mining; to provide for uniform reclamation standards; to provide for financial responsibility; and to ensure that phosphate mining is carried out in such a manner as not to preclude future normal and beneficial uses of mined-out lands; and to ensure that phosphate mining activities are conducted in compliance with the Manatee County Comprehensive Plan, as it may be amended from time to time.
