§ 2-2-9. Sheriff as chief correctional officer.

  • (a)

    Designated; officers. The sheriff of Manatee County is hereby designated the chief correctional officer of the Manatee County correctional system, and he shall appoint such officers as he deems necessary and as are required by rule of the department of corrections.

    (b)

    Operation and maintenance of county jail. The sheriff or his designee shall enforce all existing state laws and administrative rules of the department concerning the operation and maintenance of the Manatee County jail.

    (c)

    Salaries of county correctional officers. The salaries of county correctional officers shall be paid from the general revenue fund of the county and shall be included by the sheriff in his proposed budget of expenditures for the maintenance and operation of the county correctional system as provided in F.S. § 30.49.
