§ 2-9.5-3. Manatee County Civic Center Authority—Created; established; purpose.

  • There is hereby created and established the Manatee County Civic Authority, hereinafter referred to as the "authority," as a public body, politic and corporate, in Manatee County, for the purpose of planning, developing, constructing, acquiring, owning, reconstructing, extending, enlarging, repairing, improving, relocating, equipping, maintaining and operating facilities for the holding of conventions and expositions, and, civic, cultural, recreational, athletic and similar events and activities. Such facilities may be located anywhere in Manatee County. The purpose established is hereby deemed to be a public purpose the fulfillment of which is an urgent public necessity.

    The authority created and established pursuant to this chapter shall serve as the successor to the Manatee County Civic Center Authority created pursuant to Chapter 78-556, Laws of Florida (the "Special Act"), such Special Act having been amended, restated, and replaced in its entirety by this chapter pursuant to Ordinance No. 91-71, adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on October 1, 1991, and Chapter 91-386, Laws of Florida.
