Objective 11.1.2. - Coordination of Annexations.

  • Annexations which maintain consistency with this Comprehensive Plan to promote efficient extension of government services and identity.

    Policy 11.1.2.1. Attempt to negotiate interlocal agreements with the City of Bradenton and the City of Palmetto regarding annexation of any area within Manatee County. The interlocal agreements sought by Manatee County shall ensure consistency with this Comprehensive Plan including consistent level of service standards, designation of the annexation area on the Future Land Use Map of the municipality in a manner consistent with the Future Land Use Map in this Comprehensive Plan, and ensure compatibility of land uses in other areas. Assurances which may be considered adequate by Manatee County may include appropriate amendments to the municipality's Capital Improvements Element, or commitments to require necessary improvements at time of development of annexed areas to avoid unacceptable impacts on Manatee County infrastructure.

    Implementation Mechanism:

    (a)

    Utilization of the Joint Planning Committee as established under the ACCORD to coordinate review of annexations prior to approval.

    Policy 11.1.2.2. Object to and, where appropriate, take action to prevent any annexations which will have a significant adverse impact on Manatee County's infrastructure and facilities or would be inconsistent with the Comprehensive Plan, unless mitigation measures are taken by the municipality.
