Objective 11.1.6. - Cross-Jurisdictional Impacts of Development.

  • Evaluate any significant impacts of development proposals in Manatee County upon development in adjacent municipalities, adjacent counties, the region and the State to ensure compliance with and advancement of the growth management goals of the county, region, and state.

    Policy 11.1.6.1. Maintain procedures for County review of development proposals and actions which may impact the adjacent communities.

    Implementation Mechanism:

    (a)

    Maintain procedures consistent with this policy in the Planning Department.

    Policy 11.1.6.2. Send Planning agendas for both the Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners to the City of Bradenton and the City of Palmetto to keep them abreast of development requests in unincorporated Manatee County.

    Implementation Mechanism:

    (a)

    The Planning Department shall implement procedures consistent with this policy.

    Policy 11.1.6.3. Seek to establish specific procedures which will allow Manatee County to advise and provide input to adjacent jurisdictions and agencies regarding proposed developments and actions that may impact Manatee County. Such procedures will identify boundaries or criteria for joint planning areas where input will be expected on development approvals.

    Implementation Mechanism:

    (a)

    Establish coordination mechanism(s) which could include interlocal agreements and memoranda of understanding.

    Policy 11.1.6.4. Maintain active membership in committees and working groups such as the SWFWMD Comprehensive Water Management (CWW) teams, MPO technical advisory committee, the Sarasota Bay and Charlotte Harbor NEP technical advisory committees, the Tampa Bay Estuary technical advisory committee, and other groups that coordinate plans and actions, that share information, and that help to forestall any potential conflicts.

    Policy 11.1.6.5. Participate in coordination activities which will improve the management and restoration of local and regional open water bodies.
