Objective 5.7.1. - Port and Economic Development.

Increase the significance of Port Manatee in diversifying the economic base of Manatee County and the region where consistent with other provisions of this Comprehensive Plan.

Policy 5.7.1.1. Assist, whenever feasible, the existing tenants to expand or improve their operations and secure additional tenants.

Policy 5.7.1.2. Maintain Port Manatee's designation as a Foreign Trade Zone.

Policy 5.7.1.3. Promote Port-related development that provides employment opportunities.

Policy 5.7.1.4. Encourage private businesses to utilize and construct operational facilities at the port.

Policy 5.7.1.5. Increase capability to accommodate market shifts in cargos and their movements by developing and implementing business strategies based upon one (1) to five (5) year marketing plans.

Policy 5.7.1.6. Provide adequate port facilities consistent with need for industry, trade, and commerce based upon the adopted Master Plan for Port Manatee.

Policy 5.7.1.7. Encourage coordination with the region's seaports to increase their utilization and develop their economic potential.
